Involvement at the parish shapes our lives

For many of us, our parish is simply the place where we go to Mass on Sunday, and perhaps it is where we have celebrated special moments such as a baptism or first holy Communion, or even the funeral of a loved one. For others, the parish is a part of their family, a home. These members find their lives being shaped by the life of the parish. From social times such as dinners and festivals to small groups and time for learning about the Faith, the life of the parish has the potential to help us connect with each other and through one another to Christ. Many of us begin that process by accepting an invitation or plea for help from a ministry or service organization.

Parishes depend upon the active involvement of members to serve the needs of parishioners and to reach out to those who are in need in the local community and the world. It has been that way since the earliest believers gathered for the Eucharist and formed faith communities. Through our participation with one another in community, we recognize Christ’s presence, in the breaking of the bread, and through the breaking open of our lives in sharing and service as good stewards.
